Lifetime Achievement Award

Purpose:

The purpose of the RWJF Health Policy Fellows Lifetime Achievement Award is to support the goals of the Fellowship by highlighting a core mission of the Fellowship, the development of leadership in the field of health policy. This award is to recognize RWJF Health Policy Fellow Alumni for notable and sustained accomplishments in health policy as well as demonstrable commitment to service to others in their public and personal lives.

It is given to the person who best demonstrates excellence in his or her dedication to advancing and promoting health and health policy while enhancing the careers of other RWJF Health Policy Fellows and Alumni.

Values and Criteria for Selection:

  • Has made significant contributions in health and health policy as a recognized national or international leader
  • Demonstrates personal commitment to the advancement and promotion of health and health policy
  • Actively participates in health policy programs or activities at a local, (e.g. institutional or community), state, national, and/or international level.
  • Actively mentors, encourages and supports the advancement of others, particularly for other RWJF Health Policy Fellows and Alumni
  • Letters of support submitted as a result of the nomination

Background:

Established in 2008, the RWJF Health Policy Fellows Lifetime Achievement Award honors and recognizes outstanding alumni who have mobilized and unified people, institutions, or causes that have improved health or health policy. The individual's leadership should have had a national or international impact and transformed his or her chosen field, thereby contributing to the greater good. Nominees may be of any age, although this award is designed for lifetime accomplishments.

Process:

The award will be conferred every other year at the Alumni Retreat.

The award process will be organized and chaired by Alumni volunteers who are representative of the long history of the program and serve on the Awards Committee with a chair determined by the Committee members, with the support and assistance of the Fellowship office. Electronic calls for nominations will be sent to all Alumni four to five months prior to the Retreat.

Nominations will be offered by Alumni of the Fellowship and accepted for award consideration up to three months prior to the award date.

All nominations and supporting documents must be received by the Committee three months prior to the Retreat.

Supporting documents for all nominees will include:

  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Nomination letters from at least two prior Fellows
  • Two additional letters of support from those who are in a position to attest to the nominee’s exceptional contribution to health and health policy

The Committee will determine the winner who will be notified with sufficient time to assure the winning nominee will be able to plan to attend the Retreat to receive the Award. While attendance at the Retreat is not mandatory to receive the Award, attendance is highly encouraged. If required, the awardee’s travel and lodging will be reimbursed by the program office.
