Synergy Workshop

The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation (RWJF) has committed significant resources over more than three decades to the development of leaders in health, health care and health policy. Among the Foundation's Human Capital Portfolio are a variety exceptional programs that have led to an ever-growing number of prominent health policy researchers, analysts, and decision-makers, all dedicated to improving the health and health care. The invitees to the Synergy Workshop include:

  • Scholars in Health Policy Research
  • Health Policy Fellows
  • Clinical Scholars
  • Nurse Executives
  • Nurse Faculty Scholars
  • Health and Society Scholars
  • Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program
  • Physician Faculty Scholars
The purpose of the Synergy Workshop is to develop collaboration between Foundation Scholars, Fellows and Nurse Executives in building expertise through the examination of important contemporary health policy issues. In the past, participants have worked together on important public policy issues that have included health disparities, children’s health, mental health, access to health care and coverage, quality of care, costs of care, as well as basic science policy (such as genetic discrimination).

Each of the envisioned workshops includes at least one Health Policy Fellow who is working in Congress in each issue area plus at least five attendees with prior work or experience in that area, plus a senior Institute of Medicine (IOM) staffer and/or a federal official who can serve as a resource to the group. The two day forum enables each contributor to have an opportunity to learn and then apply his or her insights/experiences in the workgroups. The workgroups engages in a group process for debate and deliberation of possible actions to lead toward a productive resolution. The outcome will be identification of recommended “next steps”in the policy formation process.

We anticipate an opportunity for further engagement with the possibility of stimulating participants to pursue public policy solutions.
